DESCRIPTION:Join us on 4/30/23 for a day of native plants an pollinators in the beergarden. \n“The Well Fed Caterpillar” will be selling a large variety of native plants for your garden.\n “Earth Bounty Farms” will bring their finest pollinator products: Honey, bees-wax candles and more.\n“Cloud Mountain Kombucha” will have several varieties of Kombucha for sampling and purchase.\n\nAt 12:30 pm, attend a free public lecture by Holly Black: Tick Talk\nHolly Black is a second-year veterinary student at the University of Illinois. She is also a Master of Public Health student at the University of Minnesota. Holly’s background in tick research began during her undergraduate degree at the University of South Dakota where she participated in tick surveillance efforts and studied the establishment of lone star tick populations in South Dakota. Holly recently completed a fellowship with the Midwest Center of Excellence for Vector-Borne Disease where she is conducting a study to determine risk factors associated with tick and mosquito exposure in adults in Illinois.\nTicks have been growing in number and expanding their range across Illinois over the last decade. Learn more about the ecology of ticks and tick-borne diseases in Illinois, including how they and their hosts interact with native and invasive plants. We’ll also include some practical tips on protecting yourself, your family, and your pets.\n\n\nAt 2 pm, Maggie Murphree will speak on “Pollinators on Parade: celebrating the sung and unsung heroes of pollination”: Learn about honey bees, native bees, and what makes them different!. There will also be stories about surprising pollination strategies and information on how we can help our local pollinators thrive.\nThis talk is party of the “Science on Tap” discussion series presented by U of I School of Molecular & Cellular Biology.\nNo outside beverages allowed.\n\n\n\n
