Seasonal Beer Release: SIPLhttp://www.riggsbeer.com/index.php/event/seasonal-beer-sipl/
On May 9th, Riggs Beer Company will release May’s seasonal: Session India Pale Lager
If you’ve been following our facebook updates, you’ve seen that – for the first time – Riggs Beer Company has collaborated with another brewery on a beer. For this special event, we worked with Urban Chestnut Brewing Company, St. Louis. Just like our brewmaster Matt, their brewmaster Florian is a German certified Braumeister. Both breweries focus on traditional German and American styles. While Urban Chestnut has a branch in the Urban Chestnut Hallertau in Germany, surrounded by hop fields, we are surrounded by fields where the grain was grown for this beer.
100% of the grain in this beer is Riggs-grown
We pitched a mix of both the Riggs house lager yeast strain, and Urban Chestnuts lager yeast strain.
The main difference is in the water.
We brewed a batch here in Urbana together, which will be released on draft only on 5/9/19. We also hauled a truck load of grain down to St. Louis and brewed a batch there. This will be available for draft and in a can.
SIPL (short for Session India Pale Lager) is low in alcohol content but has plenty of American hop character. At 4.6% ABV, you can literally make an afternoon out of enjoying the wonderfully balanced lemon zest aroma and soft malt character of this little beauty. The finish is dry, clean, and slightly bitter, leaving you ready for another SIPL. And why not? It’s only 4.6%.
