A UNIQUE TAKE ON FOLK
Raised throughout the midwest and living in Chicago, Ryan Burns plays music colored with the simple values of his surroundings. After spending his childhood singing and playing songs, it wasn’t until he was an adult that he realized his calling to make music. He draws inspiration from American folk music like Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger. But his songs are also influenced by music as varied as David Bowie, Mande drumming, and The Dubliners. All of these threads combine to form a sound that is at once accessible and hard to define.
Audiences have found Ryan’s songs and voice spellbinding from Chicago to El Salvador and at venues everywhere in between. He’s has played at venues in Chicago like Metro, House of Blues and Cubby Bear and even written music for a full 52 piece orchestra. Along with playing solo, Ryan plays with his band Distant Brothers, teaches music, and composes and writes music as a freelancer. He is currently working on his debut solo EP and playing shows throughout the region, perfecting his craft.
